Top down construction was used to streamline delivery of one of the most luxurious hotels in the capital.
The immaculately finished six-star Bulgari Hotel offers the height of luxury on a prime site in the heart of Knightsbridge.
The hotel provides six floors of suites and three floors of private apartments. Six basement levels house facilities including a restaurant, business centre, spacious ballroom and private cinema along with a two-storey spa featuring a 25m swimming pool, vitality pool, ice fountains, a relaxation room and 11 treatment rooms.
The 26,000m3 excavation and formation of the building’s basement levels was undertaken simultaneously with construction of the 10-storey superstructure.
The engineering clay which makes up two thirds of the 26,000m3 of excavated material was reused.
Our team worked to ensure all parties understood and met the client’s exacting quality requirements for the building’s opulent interior finishes. Mock-ups were used to benchmark standards and, where appropriate, stringent quality checks were established to ensure materials met those standards prior to dispatch.
The Bulgari Hotel and Residences won the Architecture of the Year Award in the New Build Hotel category at the European Hotel Design Awards.
The judges described the Bulgari as “a masterpiece of intelligent architecture, exquisitely realised with exceptional attention to detail, giving London a gem of a new hotel”.
